The University Parents for Day Cure, Incorporated requested th i r ty two thousand dollars from the Central Council on September 2, 1971 lor opera t ing a Day Care Center in the basement of Pierce Hall on Alumni Quadrangle. The Day Care Center was represented by Peter Pollak, a graduate s t uden t in the Educat ional Founda t ions Department . T l i e C e n t r a l C o u n c i l c u r r e n t l y c o n t r o l s an E m e r g e n c y / Spending line of app rox ima te ly thir ty-eight thousand dollars. The requested expend i tu re s include salaries, food, insurance and supplies. S t a ff salaries would be twelve thousand dollars for a Director, ten thousand for a program Director/Certif ied Teacher , eighty-five hundred for an Infant Supervisor /Nurse, and six thousand for a Sec re ta ry /Bookkeeper . Food costs at five dollars per child per week would total twelve thousand dollars. Supplies, e q u i p m e n t , expenses, and insurance total four thousand dollars, resulting in a total of-sixty thousand dollars. Pollak said that these salaries were set by the university last year. The Day Care Center receives Iwen tye igh t thousand dollars from parents . Parent fees are ten dollars per child per week. If appropr ia ted , the th i r ty two thousand dollars would cover eighty children for th i r ty five weeks. If new sources of funds are not found after eighteen weeks, the Student Association would furnish I he remaining appropr ia t ion . However il was noted that it is difficult to hire a staff for eighteen weeks. Other eounci lmen proposed salary cuts and higher income fees from parents. Pollak explained at a later interview that he could not adhere to these proposals wi thou t consul t ing the parents in the Day Care Corpora t ion . Pollak also no ted that parents using the day care center can not afford increases in fees.
